I was really surprised by that. I know for a fact that quite a few "mainstream" chain theaters were interested in booking MST3K:TM but it never panned out. I was really lucky and saw its last showing at the art house near my hometown. All of my friends were huge fans of the show, but only a few of us got to see the movie just because no one knew about it. They wound up doing some weird art-house/college run with the film, but it could have easily made a profit in even a modest release. Oh, well.
