Yes. I've been a Clerk. When 'Clerks' came out, it was uncannily like my life at the time. Only, I'm female.

The worst parts of being a Convenience Store Clerk:
-Asswipes who bitch that the restrooms are for *customers* only. I'm just a lowly counter-jockey. You think that's MY policy? If they gotta go so bad, don't argue with me about it, go next door to the gas station or the book store.
-People who would CALL to get our prices on things like MILK, BREAD, CIGERETTES, GAS... etc. Our policy: We're a *convenience* store, we're here for your *convenience*, not price-matching. So, we don't give prices out over the phone.
-Stupid creep kids trying to get cigerettes, alcohol w/o ID. Or a *really* bad fake.
-"Can I use your phone?" - There's a payphone outside for a reason. It's not just decoration. Really.
-"Do you sell cigerettes?" Gee, you're standing in front of the rack if you're at the counter asking me. Pick one out already. (This was previous to Iowa's law about keeping cigerettes behind the counter now.)
-Stupid kids trying to buy nudie magazines. We sold them in black bags on the magazine rack with everything else. They would *try* to slip one inside something like Sports Illustrated or Highlights for Kids and buy it that way. I'm older than you, kiddo, which means I wasn't born yesterday.

The two years I worked in a mom-n-pop hardware store... similar story. Big props to the guy who got even with the yuppie in the Jag. And man... I FEEL YOUR PAIN when it comes to mixing paint and old fogies who try to rip you off.

: Just a question for everyone that posts here, Have you ever held or are you currently in the position of Convenient Store Clerk?

: If so what time in your life was it? Ever got robbed? Any interesting stories to tell?

: Although I wasnt a clerk, I used to work a taco shop built inside an exxon gas station/convenient store and I had to share all the duties and situations with the full time clerks that did work there. So I was a clerk, except I was a clerk that made tacos too. It wasnt a bad position, me and the others that worked there never went hungry, and the boss never caught us eating the products. Every friday night shift was the funnest, we would get the most unusual people...We had these two repeat customers that always came around the store, they were to stoners (no kidding) One was Robert, the other, I cant remember his name...but everytime they came in they were in a different car, one day I asked them about that and they told us they were repo guys working for a car lot. Robert was a short Latin guy that always dressed in some pimpin' threads, and the other was a tall black guy with all gold teeth and cornrows...They would come in everynight stoned or tore up...and they would ask for free tacos, so naturally since they were so cool I would hook them up with big ass tacos and burritos. They would stay and just bullshit with us for an hour or two and then leave. The funniest thing was we were located a mile down the road from a gypsy camp...Oh my god, they were a "Fine" group of customers, whiny, and they talked so fast we could never understand what they were saying...And every monday night was a slow night so we would go into the cooler and open up a few beers, and we had Maddog 20/20 in the store so I would drink down a bottle of that cheap but effective stuff...so naturally when clerks came out, I was magnetically drawn to it, I was like "Oh shit, those guys are like me!" Believe Me there were many times I wanted to rip into the occational customer, and a few times, I did.

: Well that is my story, anyone else got something?
