: And, just as a by-the-way, some of us (okay, me) who wrote posts accusing Tim Burton of raging hackdom have felt that way for quite a while, and his attack on Kevin Smith did nothing to deepen those already existing feelings. It's a valid opinion, nothing more - and we all know what opinions are like, don't we?
Yes, it is a valid opinion.
This is what I think, though.
I don't think today offered an opportunity to discuss his work on any sort of level here. The very fact that an incident occured meant that the level of discourse on the subject was going to be reduced to "Burton is a hack cocksucker!", which simply isn't "opinion", it's hysteria. It's shrill screeds. They are the opposite of real opinion.
That's what today's little controversy offered an opportunity for.
Because ultimately this had nothing to do with Burton's overall body of work. ABSOLUTELY FUCKING NOTHING!
So, you had an opinion on this issue and talked about that? Cool. You threw in about you general dislike of Burton? Fine. You posted a fullscale attack on Burton's work today after this silly non-controversy? Why? Why on Earth was that needed? How could that possibly benefit discussion of anything?
I also still think that categorizing Burton's comments as an "attack" without any further context to put them in is presumptuous to a degree that I find disturbing frankly. Certainly Kevin has written much clearer in context "attacks" than that and the board has swung with him. As I said before, going nuts because Burton does the same thing is hypocrisy.
