Why chocloate covered pretzels?

I just saw Mallrats.
Now, after everyone stops saying "jeez, where has this guy been" I'll continue.
Okay, I just watched the New Jersy Trilogy in it's entirety, all on DVD (special edition of course), and i was amazed.
Not at the quality of the films, which was excellent, but rather the use of the chocolate covered pretzels. I used chocolate covered pretzels to accompany stinkfist in a story I wrote years ago (like, 2), and i wondered what the hell the motivation was behind it. I'm not accusing anyone of anything, if that is what it sounds like, I just wonder what the primary motivation was behind the use.

I found it cool.
