Don't get me wrong, I love Burton. His is one of the few filmmakers, besides Kevin, that I look up to and draw artistic knowledge from but, his dealing of the whole matter was out and out rude and gives a sense of supreme arrogance. Now this is not necessarily a flaw for filmmakers. You need to have a swager in your step or people walk all over you but, Burton must be knocked down a notch.
In all seriousness, I think his handling of the situation is a gateway into whether a person is guilty or innocent. Such a defensive remark would lend one to think that Burton is in fact a serious Smith comic reader and is just ashamed of letting his dark secret love of Kevin Smith dialogue out.
Burton needs just accept it and come out of the closet.
