Well, I can't give you an answer re: Jonathan Taylor Thomas, but the Space Shuttle joke is a reference to the Challenger disaster, when the Space Shuttle blew up on take-off. There was, for the first time, a civilian passenger on the Space Shuttle; her name was Krista McCauliffe (I may be horribly misspelling that. It seems deeply wrong to misspell that, for some reason) and she was a school teacher, which was why so many of us were in our classrooms, watching the take-off on television, when it blew.
