I love the burton ode to all that is dark, and I love the smith films and
his comicc work. BUT......
Burton is far from infallible. The point is not screw superman, I am no
fan of the caped loser myself. Even being from cleveland the home of
superman I never really 'got it'. Too little depth, I mean he can split the
fucking earth in two and he is beating up guys with tommy guns?
Didn't he have something better to do with all that power? Sure the
stories got better, but thats not the point.
It is not even about the modification of a script. Sure many writers
have their script modified by directors every day. some times it works
and sometimes it doesn't. this doesn't make tim or kevin the good or
bad guy, that is not the point either.
The integrity of character and vision is the issue. if the rumours are to
be believed Burton wanted to add a fight at the fortress of solitude
(look up Solitude Tim). On top of that he wanted a grand battle
between the man of steel, mover of worlds...and a fucking POLAR
BEAR! WTF???? this is worse than chumps with tommy guns.
were I a true comic fan, and I am, I would surely distance myself from
this fiasco. Even for a character I personally dislike I would NOT want
to ruin the imge so badly. They have kicked Batman enough, let's not
let WB remove all vestigages of decency from Superman also.
