I think you're confused.
Tim Burton had nothing to do with Monkeybone. Henry Selick, who directed the Burton-produced Nightmare Before Christmas and James and the Giant Peach, directed it, but Burton didn't even produce the movie.
As for Selick not staying true to the comic on which it was based, well, the comic book that it was based on only had a first issue and then it was cancelled. Not much to adapt from.
