Sorry, but too many people already did it for me to be high minded and stick with one thread. A break in message board etiqutie I know, but what the [EXPLETIVE DELETED] is a [EXPLETIVE DELETED] gonna [EXPLETIVE DELETED] do about [EXPLETIVE DELETED] like that. [EXPLETIVE DELETED]
Anywho, I just got back from a sold out show in Boston, and the movie definetly went over well. I have some concerns that it's a little too deep in the ViewAskewniverse for most folks, but I think it'll play to a wide audience. The Hollywood section will do great with anyone, and self-referential jokes are funnier than most critics give them credit for. More than the inside jokes, the general "potty-mouth" nature of the film is my biggest concern for its success. Even the audience I saw it with seemed to cringe at parts.
One problem was the "I miss dating a lesbian" line was cut off at the punchline (lesbian). You could tell people saw it on Reel Comedy because there were a lot of diappointed gasps when the skip happened with people explaining to their dates what the joke was.
The cameos were hilarious. The Scooby-Doo scene was a big hit. Dante and Randell got a bigger response than any of the other View Askew cameos, especially in the drawn out "Apes" sequence. Only competition was actually Walt and Steve-Dave, but I think that was a lot of people patting themselves on the back for knowing Walt and Steve-Dave. I think all of the Askew references got some response, except maybe the SeaGulls. I honestly thought I was the only one who noticed that, although I'm sure others would have, too. Of course, that's just me patting myself on the back for knowing the seagulls.
All in all, I wish you luck. For what its worth, I'll highly recommend the film and will be returning with at least one friend on Friday. Can't wait for the DVD and the treasure trove of deleted scenes that must exist for the film.
