Hell, I thought I was one of the older posters.

35 in September and. . .

Here goes. . .

: OK, since Chasing Amy was fucking awesome I saw Clerks (very good) and Mallrats (passable). Also saw Dogma when it came out (disappointing).

"Amy" was the first VA flick I saw, and still my above-all favorite. I would agree with you in the sense that Dogma was my "least favorite." Clerks was my second VA flick, with Mallrats being shortly after. Most of the folks I know prefer Mallrats.

: But again, since Chasing Amy was so damn good I had to see this movie. And, well, lots of the jokes were funny. And the in humor was great. But the movie really needed a point or a real plot.

I thought it had more plot than even Kevin gave it credit for. Certainly enough plot for the action and the all-too-short amount of time given.

: I'm too old for this (37, yeah, I know.)

Let's not start apeing Danny Glover. :)

: I hope Kevin makes a lot of money from this because it's better than most teen comedies I've been subjected to.

Not only is it better than the lame teen comedy staples, but it plays well to their audience. Very well.

I hope it makes tons of money so Miramax will continue to give Kevin free rein, $20 million budget or no.

: But overall I'm really looking to that "Chasing Amy like drama" about fatherhood that Kevin's been promising.

I'm always hungry for comedies with depth, which Kevin can surely deliver.

: Also: Am I the ONLY Amy-head that was disappointed that this movie did not resolve the action of Chasing Amy...which I could have sworn Kevin said he was going to do?

Actually, I'm glad it didn't. . . I occasionally like to see movie endings _not_ get wrapped up in some tidy little package. (That's up there with my "not everything has to be explained" soapbox, i.e. Highlander and The Crow.)

And heck. . . I thought there was supposed to be "something new about Banky". . . but I must've missed it.

: All in all, a good movie, worth seeing a few times. But Kevin's done better. And I hope he'll do so again.

See a few times? I'm already planning to _own_ this movie on DVD. It'll be the perfect flick to pop in after a truly shitty day at the office (which happens more often than I care to think about right now).

It's tough to say "Kev's done better". . . This movie's Kevin's crown jewel in Hollywood terms, probably-- he's nailed down summer fare humor and delivered the goods visually (in spades, I thought). But am I looking forward to more of Kevin's deep thought flicks? You bet. The man seems like he always has something worthwhile to say.
