Hi my name is Matt, I live in… Well, if there’s a bright centre to the UK, I’m in the town that it’s farthest from, living in a flat (previously let by a man who set himself on fire, then jumped out of a first floor window) Please don’t hold any of this against me, I’m a top notch individual really. Anyway, I suppose the main reason I’m sending this is because there is but one comic store in my entire city which, though it delivers on some fronts, fails in the “Askewniverse” department time after time. First question… What are the odds of me buying all the merchandise that I want from your website, and it all getting to my place safe without folds, rips, and/or any other death penalty worthy marks? My next question is… What were my other questions? My mind has suddenly collapsed in a smoking heap in the corner. I’m sure you people get loads of mail from people wanting a break in the movie industry (both sides of the camera) all the time, right? Well luckily I’m not one of those people. I was for a little while when I met (and fell deep in lust with) Drew Barrymore in London I’d have given anything to meet her again and set out to be a star. Fortunately my absolute lack of acting skills led to the demise of my career as a ‘thesp’ and a more healthy, sane, outlook on life. OOOOOh! I remembered a question… In the “Wizard Kevin Smith Spectacular”, ‘the Smith’ said something along the lines of… “People ask me to direct scripts that I don’t write…” “…There are people who do that very well; I’m just not one of those people” Would you (the Smith) consider creating a collaborative script from scratch (e.g. Not somethin like “Superman Lives” where certain parameters are set in stone and unchangeable, but something that can be invented, adapted, discussed etc) with another writer? (Comic or Film) And my final question for now… Though you do not consider yourself any great authority on comics (Well, maybe you do, I don’t know) how old would you say was too old to get started in the funny books game? I’m 20 years old and I’m only just thinking about putting books together. All my role models were about my age if not younger when they got going, in ’94 you must’ve been what? 23? 24? RUN DMC were still teenagers when they were thinking up ‘Rock Box’ and the like. I have stories to tell and characters ready but I have no idea how to even start to take my work to the people. It’s where heart is, and always has been so I’m going put something together no matter what. Even if it’s just for my own sanity, to give me a purpose while I push beers to the over 40’s crowd every night, but anyway, I’d love to hear any advice/words of wisdom you may have to offer on the subject. Well, I have to go and argue with my local comic store clerk about the release date of “the Amazing Spiderman #34” in the hope that he’ll sell it to me a week earlier than he’s prepared to. Thanks for your time, and never give up making those beautiful, powerful works. Remember, with great power…….. YOU HAVEN’T HEARD THE LAST OF MEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!! Matt B, UK PS- any plans to come visit my side of the Atlantic? UK release dates for JSBSB? Complimentary premiere tickets? Ha ha ha.
