Kevin -
I attended the Friday night 8:00 PM showing of J&SBSB here in Oklahoma City (Crossroads Mall Theater). I arrived at the theater at approximately 7:45pm. There were four ticket booths open -- all four had lines that spilled out of the theater onto the outside sidewalk. They didn't actually start the movie until 8:15 (HIGHLY unusual) because there were so many people outside still trying to get in. When we left, the whole lobby was filled with people waiting for the 9:30 show. I looked to me that both shows were close to selling out.
There have been few movies where I have actually seen people stand up and applaud: Return of the Jedi, Batman, Indiana Jones ... and now, this one. I'm knew opening weekend would bring View Askew fans out in full force, but I had no idea they would all be at MY showing! I missed a couple of the one liners due to people clapping or laughing but hey, that's what DVD's are for.
Within the first 15-20 minutes I saw at least one couple get up and leave. As Jay would say ... well, you know what Jay would say, that's why they left. The movie isn't FOR them. I now see why you said that it was meant for us -- and probably just a little, for yourself. ;) As a VA fan and a bigger Star Wars fan, I loved all the references. I read a review somewhere that said if you like Kevin Smith movies, this one will be your favorite -- I can't think of a bigger compliment, so I'll steal that one.
Unfortunately, the Daily Oklahoman ("Jokelahoman") link's to Zap It online, so the only review fellow Okie's will see will be the CARO review. I'll be running a 4 star one on www.WhiteTrashDevil.com to make up for it Monday morning. :)
(MINOR SPOILER)
Almost no one stayed through the credits to see the ending. This is the end of one of the best series of all time - why not stay and savor every minute of it? I can see why "she" didn't have anything to "clean up" this time -- you already did all the work.
Two thumbs up from Oklahoma ..
