I can not agree with these comparisons...J&SB are originals. Rosencrantz and Guildenstern were not all that funny --except in the grim context of the rest of Hamlet. And does anyone actually VOLUNTEER to see Waiting for Godot any more? Also, the Cheech and Chong comparisons are just not right. How about The Thin Man and his wife ...Nora, was it? Much more apt --if Kevin doesn't mind being the Myrna Loy to Jay's William Powell.
The writers who say that Kevin Smith writes screenplays about ideas --a la George Bernard Shaw-- are closer to the mark. J&SB are great original comic characters who make big ideas and big questions palatable even to those not necessarily all that used to thinking.
An afterthought --Has anyone noticed the resemblance between Jason Mews and Stan Laurel? Jay is like a stretch version of Stan, but more importantly, he has Stan's comic sweetness.
