Word of mouth didn't kill this movie. If you actually did the research before saying something like that, you'd see that the movie got very high grades by moviegoers.
JSBSB didn't get its ass handed to it by anyone. It lost by a slim margin to the movies that will go on to be the 2nd and 3rd highest grossing movies in August of all time. And it made more than half its budget in a weekend!! Hardly any movies do that anymore.
The plot of the movie wasn't important. Just like the plot of Bubble Boy and Road Trip (and the hundred other movies that have a similar plot) were not important. It was the laughs that are important. People who bash the movie because of its plot is just retarded- the movie's point is to make you laugh. If you say "I just didn't find it all that funny" I will take that as a valid opinion.
The trailer made it look like some big Star Wars spoof? That would explain all the shots of hot chicks, Ben Affleck, and George Carlin's dick-sucking hitchhiker.
