I am an industry rat trying to make a dollar in the Hollywood system, while not telling my boss I watch idependant films. While monstermax does tend to get carried away with some of their marketing campeigns, I 'm surprised they got carried away on this one. As a true fan of Kev, as well as being a monmouth county native I was impressed with Strike Back or as I like to call it "Mallrats 2."
While I loved the world Kevin has created, some referrences felt a bit forced. What was with Brodie's faces?
Mallrats is my bible and Smith rightfully returned to writing prophet (none of this Dogma nonsense.) The comedy in this movie is meant for us... the people reading this, or the people doofing around this website.
Be grateful a film for the fans can emerge these days from the swampland of studio fare. The terrible twosome at the max seemed to understand that we are Kevin's fans, so they let him make a movie for us.
Who cares if Kevin has gotten blinded by the big box-office lights he is told he needs to cater to, (I thought the ticket bribe was a little much) but the films stands on its own. It is not a cinematic achievement, but it is a movie I will watch over and over, and laugh my ass off each time Phantoms is mentioned.
Good for Kevin to get it done in this vicious company town.
