Generally, most theatres are having slower days now in the waning days of the summer. American Pie 2 was #1 because of the advent of people who liked the pie-f*cker last year. So, they all went along with their friends/brothers/cousins, so it's made a lot of cash by milking the available audience. Rush Hour 2 made a whole lot of cash because it's funny and has Jackie Chan doing stuff. That's about it. Plus, there's no age restrictions so people can just go to it. Jay & Silent Bob Strike Back was #3 because people still want to see pie-f*cker and Jackie Chan. Notice, though, that the flick beat out a lot of other flicks. And losing to a Jackie Chan mega-hit can't be bad. Pie-f*cker? Well...that was marketed towards kids a lot more than J&SBSB.
