I've only known about Kevin Smith for 2 months since I rented Dogma on a whim, but that was the fatal hit of crack. I feel like I've been a fan for years, and I told Kevin that at Antone's in Austin when I FLEW there from Auburn, Alabama just to see the unofficial world premier of J&SBSB.
I wish I had had the nerve to push forward and ask more questions, but just being there was reward enough. I'm WAY over the age demographic for a Kevin Smith fan, but something about him drew me in. I've seen J&SBSB 3 times so far, counting the sneak preview in Columbus, GA, and here in Auburn last night. I was the only fan in Austin with a J&SBSB T-shirt, and got a lot of "Cool! Where did you get that?" remarks. Each time I see it I get a few more "reeferences"--I almost wish I'd wasted my money on more of the crappy flicks it parodies so I'd get the jokes better. Kevin is the sort of young Catholic guy I used to love to hang out with late at night in the dorms at St. Mary's University and discuss ideas with. I don't know if it's the habit of going to confession, but they seemed more open and self-examining than other people. I'm glad a hot babe like Jennifer saw that in him too--it gives me hope. Kevin gives us shy persons the strength to get up and do what needs to be done. I got a great shot of him & Jen at Antone's and I'll send it along when I get access to a scanner. The question I should have asked at the post-screening session was: Jason Mewes is YOUR Muse. His spontaniety frees your imagination. Where will you look for inspiration when he leaves?
