Brother has made five movies. Five. I don't know about you cats, but five movies, on top of writing comics and setting up the whole stash biz. That's something. I'm not trying to get up in Smith's grill or anything. As a writer who's been published (ask me I'll give you isbins), that body of work writing alone in six years is pretty damn prolific. Not to mention all the crap he did on the side, like the Psycomic piece and all that other yotz.
For the curious, say one page is equal to one minute of screen time. Add up the screen time of all 5 of Smith's films. Now add all the pages of comics, now add all the crap he wrote on line. Do you see where I am going? Like or hate the guy (and I reckon I know how most of the wwboarders feel considering I've been beat up by some of you), brother has cranked out the text. I admire him for that, just hate him for his success, lovely child and knockout wife.
Smith is the outsiders insider. He snuck into the studio system with a cranky and bitchy indy flick and stayed there, unearthing an incredible cast and still staying solidly connected to his roots. Do you cats remember that? Remember when Smith was nothing? Some cat from Jersey with an ear for dialogue and not a very good grip on a camera. Back when the Askewniverse was nothing more then some chunky kids' vision of a group of stories?
That's what I dig about Kevin, in any medium (although where you are going with Green Arrow...be careful, he's m'boy, jack with him and I'll become a detractor) he's about the .people. the folks that are part of and the telling of the story. That's why he is good with dialogue. People are dialogue, we exist through the words we say, we define ourselves, moment by moment, through our words and actions. Smith gets it.
best always Smith bro,
Matt C.
