In all seriousness, I think that the film both reflects the use of the term 'gay' as a ,pardon the pun, catch all phrase, but also reflects some 'confusion' in dealing with sexual identity experienced by many Gen X'rs and even worse, Gen Y'ers.

To be honest, I really didn't notice it....I played basketball through college and you kinda become immune to any jokes, and since I stared 'Real School' , I have met such a diverse group of people that my attitudes have changed. I MAY be more *politically correct* now, but the use of semi-derogatory comments, even in jest, is something you REALLY have to try and watch for.

I think Kevin sent a good message through Van Der Beek's lines, and also by the little joke about what Silent Bob MIGHT have done if need be, what Jay thinks about when masturbating(See:Dogma), and the character of Banky, whom everyone adores due to Jason Lee....

Well, I think he is creating a more 'accepting' atmosphere by creating characters that since people LIKE, it helps pass along the message of tolerance easier.

If the homosexual references bother you , spend a little time asking WHY.

Oh, and to keep things in perspective, keep in mind that Lesbians are Lesbians because they have not met you yet.

This kept me going for years.
