You say that the Catholic church as a whole is like that (though I'm not agreeing with you), but why do you think that all "Catholics" are the same? Just because the religion as a whole might do one thing or the other, doesn't mean that the individual will do the same thing or feel the same way. To say that Catholics are "scum" isn't very fair, because you can't base people's faith, their feelings, or their heart, upon what you see in movies, read in newspapers, or even what you've experienced in life. Everyone is different and everyone within certain religions have different thoughts, opinions, and feelings about things, even though they have the same basic belief structure.
And I'm not Catholic, so don't think I'm saying this to defend my own religion. All I'm saying is that it's unfair to put everyone in the same group.

: Okay, I have been in general a big fan of Kevin's movies. But this is not about his films. I have read many interviews where he considers himself Catholic. So what exactly is involved there. Seems to me the Catholic church takes the position of being very intolerant of homosexuality, abortion, and even contraception. Seems to me the Catholic church has made itself clear that whatever the Pope says is the word. Seems to me that none of these things define Kevin Smith at all. Whats the deal? Why would he want to lend his name to such an intolerant sect of christianity that has been responsible for more tortures/murders/wars/incalculable madnesses than WWII Germany/Stalin and pretty much every other despot combined. Why exactly does he think that this church needs good press. Fuck Catholics. You can make up whatever reasons you want to believe in whatever godish type thing you want, as long as it makes you happy and nobody is getting hurt by it. But why would such a seemingly intelligent person as Kevin Smith choose to align himself with such a monsterous organization as the Catholic church. I mean, read some history. Even RECENT history. These people are scum. Fine, say you believe in God, choose your guidelines and such-whatever. But find something better to support than these useless assholes.
