Whats the deal? Why would he want to lend his name to such an
intolerant sect of christianity that has been responsible for more
tortures/murders/wars/incalculable madnesses than WWII
Germany/Stalin and pretty much every other despot combined.
Our ancestors committed these heinous acts, not us. What if we
were to blame you for slavery, human sacrifices or other historical
blood-shedding instances? Nowadays, we're all a peace-loving faith
that wants to lend a helping hand to impoverished peoples. And the
only assimilation going on in the Catholic Church seems to be with
the music directors. I can't tell you how sick I am of the "Mass of
Creation" eucharistic music (The Holy, Holy, Holy - Mystery of Faith -
Great Amen set) that seems to be played at 80% of the churches I've
visited. But I digress.

Catholics. You can make up whatever reasons you want to believe in
whatever godish type thing you want, as long as it makes you happy
and nobody is getting hurt by it. But why would such a seemingly
intelligent person as Kevin Smith choose to align himself with such a
monsterous organization as the Catholic church. I mean, read some
history. Even RECENT history. These people are scum. Fine, say you
believe in God, choose your guidelines and such-whatever. But find
something better to support than these useless assholes.
No, fuck YOU. You're making us sound like we're worse than the
Taliban. You seem to want to throw out the good with the bad. Yes, I
admit that the Vatican is still stuck in the Middle Ages with their edicts.
But there's no Catholic militia killing in the name of Jesus these days.
In fact, I'm sticking around until John Paul dies to see what direction
the next pope will take the church. Until then, I'm sticking up for my
faith, however maligned it may be. And we're not "useless"... we do a
lot of humanitarian work around the globe with many positive results.
: PS:Kevin, I would welcome your opinion on this. I think you are a very
talented person and I wish I could understand why you take the
stance you do.
Kevin, in my view, is a practicing Catholic who believes that God has
a good sense of humor, someone who can take a good-natured
ribbing every now and then without getting offended. If everyone on
the planet believed this way, the world would be a hell of a lot more
peaceful.
