The Catholic Church is made of PEOPLE. Individuals, with individual views. Kevin Smith does not have to murder non-Catholics to be Catholic, he doesn't have to burn a condom factory to be Catholic, he doesn't have to blow the fucking Pope to stay Catholic. He has to be a human being to be Catholic. Catholic means universal, and all are accepted, even if they aren't practicing the party line. The church is there for its members even if they don't agree with them. As an organization, it tries very hard to embody Christ, although since it is run by humans it will fail from time to time. That's not Kevin's fault.
And I don't think the Catholic Church has done any more harm to humankind than any other religion. After all, it was Puritanism that led to the Salem Witch trials. Bad deeds are inherent in human history - they aren't an action of a religious organization. They are a reflection of human behavior.

Seems to me the Catholic church takes the position of being very intolerant of homosexuality, abortion, and even contraception. Seems to me the Catholic church has made itself clear that whatever the Pope says is the word. Seems to me that none of these things define Kevin Smith at all. Whats the deal? Why would he want to lend his name to such an intolerant sect of christianity that has been responsible for more tortures/murders/wars/incalculable madnesses than WWII Germany/Stalin and pretty much every other despot combined. Why exactly does he think that this church needs good press. Fuck Catholics. You can make up whatever reasons you want to believe in whatever godish type thing you want, as long as it makes you happy and nobody is getting hurt by it. But why would such a seemingly intelligent person as Kevin Smith choose to align himself with such a monsterous organization as the Catholic church. I mean, read some history. Even RECENT history. These people are scum. Fine, say you believe in God, choose your guidelines and such-whatever. But find something better to support than these useless assholes.
