Using parts of a movie for educational purposes is legal so long as its fair use. Things get tricky when people try to define the term "fair use." basically though small video clips are okay so long as they don't keep the movie from making money. In your case using the clip might actually make people want to see the rest of the movie. In any case using small clips is legal so long as it's fair use. What you can't do is show the whole thing, or even so much of it that the class would have little reason to go out and rent it.
: for a project in my world religions class, I was gonna do catholocism...I was planning on making a video presentation, and I was wondering if u would be terribly bothered if I used parts from dogma...like little video clips.....just amking sure i won't get sued, altho I don't know how u would have found out had I not mentioned it.......toodles!

: : Alright, I'm a senior in a small high school in Eugene, Oregon, and i've got a question. This year i was given the duty of finding a show to direct and produce for the stage. Being a movie and film lover, of course i looked to the screen. And what i found that would work for our incredible $250 budget is the Kevin Smith classic, "Clerks". But that's where I run into a problem. I don't want to just steal the story and use it, I want to know if I could get permission to use the script and adapt it for the stage. Please remember that this is for a small production in a little town just to raise some money to keep our high school theatre program going for as long as we can. Thanks for listening,
