Does anyone know if NYC is taking off-the-street volunteers for search-n-rescue?

I'm currently unemployed and have nothing but spare time and a full tank of gas - I only live 14hrs from NYC and feel the need to help out. I just don't want to drive all the way there and not be allowed to help.
