“ But Kevin gave us all incentive to go on the first Saturday, and on that day the movie plummeted from near first place to fourth.”
Let me sound like my dear departed Grandmother a second. There are times when it is up to you to make social changes, you may not like it or even be prepared but up to you nonetheless, it is. Now Kevin's movies aren't HIV research but they are important, to us. I know I’m disappointed that the word of mouth on this flick didn't spread more. I remember Kevin saying once, how shocked he was that American Pie made such incredible bank and Mallrats, well, didn't. I felt bad for him at that moment and I've remembered that post ever since. It had an air of "hey rats was just as good as this AP thing, what happened". Any way, Kevin has and will continue to give us great gifts that we will revisit thorough our lives and I/we owe him something for that, and more than $8 for a stub and a DVD purchase. I don't care if J&SB wasn't your cup of tea, if you loved Amy then go plunk down again & again. I want Kevin to have the biggest shit-eating grin on his face the next time he strolls into Miramax. Head high, chest out, whilst people in the halls mutter to one another "hey that's KS his flick is killing". Don't you want that? Don't you want to give back at least as well as you got?
Go again, drag a friends or three, email every person you've ever known tell them to go, be shameless. Got the day off? Stand at a box office with a sandwich board. Take out an ad do something that says “Kevin, Scott, everyone I appreciate what you do and I want to support it as long and as steadfastly as I can” (Christ don’t break a law). Because if you/we don’t one day Miramax will stop taking Kevin’s calls and your going to be stuck watching crappy movies that are not much more than an equation meant to get you in the theater. This guy + this trite overdone story = $50m.
I know Kevin said he’s only going to do this movie thing till he’s 40 but how’s about we don’t give him the chance to retire. Let’s cause such a ground swell, such a fury for well written, Kevin Smith material that the guys writing right up till the last.
Now rally your friends and meet back at this post Monday at 5 PM EST and we’ll pick a day.
For Kevin!
