Damn good thing I'm such a freaking insomniac, I might never have caught you on here.
I primarily wanted to ask you about the Oscars. It would seem pretty obvious that you aren't exactly shooting for one, but what's your general opinion on the subject? Would you like to win one, love to, wouldn't care either way?
There was talk back in the day about the outside possibility of Chasing Amy getting a nom for Original Screenplay (a possibility I loudy trumpeted in my newspaper column at the time), and now that you say you're going back to work that is more serious in tone (and thus somewhat more likely to be considered when the time comes) I wonder what your thoughts on the subject are.
More questions, hmm... (I feel I must use this opportunity, lest it slip by and I feel I've wasted it)
Okay, here's a couple quickies:
What were/are your thoughts on life in LA? Personally, I hated it, and rushed my sorry ass back to the east coast ASAP. I found the whole sorta California zetigeist difficult to reconcile with my Philly/Jersey upbringing.
I know you've said no more Jersey films (and I say bravo for boldly going forth into new territories), but is there a chance that, aside from the Mallrats sequel and other projects already announced, we'll see more of the Askewniverse characters on the printed page? Personally I'd love to see more of Randal - he's always been my favorite - and being the rank sentimentalist that I am (don't tell anyone) I would like to know what really becomes of Holden and Alyssa and Banky in between CA and J&SBSB. I would think there's a great story there.
I guess that's it for questions. If I might be a bit critical, now that I have this kind of opportunity I'd like to say that GREEN ARROW has been a bit of a letdown for me. Don't get me wrong, I dug your DD and the Askew stuff, but there's just something about GA that isn't clicking for me. Maybe it's just too many word balloons, I dunno. But, y'know, it's still better than most of the super-hero stuff out there, so there's something to say in that. And, hey, you've still got, what, ten issues? More than enough room to wow me (and everyone else).
Oh, another question (or three, as the case may be): Any thoughts on what you might want to do comics-wise after Black Cat and B&B, maybe some characters you'd like to do? Any non-superhero comics you're grooving on these days (myself I love Rucka's QUEEN AND COUNTRY)?
And, lastly, at the end of CA, in the con scene, why don't you give a shout-out (or maybe even a plug) to David Lapham? That's a SB booth next to Alyssa and the quickie shot we see as we pull out looks like it might be Maria working the booth, so why not mention it a little. For all the "Jersey represent" shtuff, why omit Toms River's finest export since cancerous little leaguers?
Okay, I'm done. I just have to say thanks for everything, Kevin. The movies, the comics, everything. You've been an inspiration.
