That presents the problem that they would have broken one of God's Commandments: Thou Shalt Not Kill, and they would not have entered Heaven. But then, they were carrying out a "mission from God"(where have I heard that before), which means that it would have been approved by God. This is a Catch 22 situation. This would prove that God is failible, since he wouldn't have lived up to his own commandments. The only person who could have resolved the problem to a satisfactory conclusion was the big fella him/herself. Which is what happened. Not to mention the fact that Jay had no bullets left.
