I don't know WHAT I was trying to say, but I think I was trying to get at the fact that most #1 'Hits' leave people enttertained, but few have 'Meaning' after the fact...

I wasn't saying that Kevin would write/direct a 'devoid' film and get #1...hell, J&SBSB was as devoid of 'meaning' as it will probably get, and it felt more 'real' than 90% of the films out there.

I think the directors personality really permeates a film, and even with a load of 'Dick and Fart Jokes', there comes across a nice sense of warmth, rather than 'Hollywood Varnish' that films like AP 2 reek of.

: :My last thought is this...I fear the day when Kevin DOES open and hold the #1 spot...and realizes that it is empty compared to having a film that maybe a 'hit', but does not MEAN as much to the viewers as his films have.

: i don't think we'll ever see a Kevin Smith movie that doesn't mean anything. i hope and pray that Kevin gets to see a picture of his hit that #1 spot, but when it does (hopefully that's a prognostication on my part) it will having meaning on some topic. i'm not saying the most films don't, in fact most do, but Kevin's skill and style always illustrates the meanings of his points, whether it's laced with comdey, or just plain dick and fart jokes, where others will miss that mark. i don't think he'll have to fear his top blockbuster flick lacking meaning.

: :I DARE Bruckheimer to try that one.

: BTW, what did Pearl Harbor net? not gross, but net.

: i like the point of your post. i hope Kev realizes he has $30 mil worth of core admirers for any flick he does in the future, rather than concentrating on the 10 or 20 mil more they thought they'd get. of course, i don't thinks he's terribly in the dumper anyway.
