I know everybody and their dog has been putting in their two cents on the events of Sept. 11th, but I just had to say my piece. I, like most people around the world, was reviled by the events of that tragic day. Frankly, there is no description that could possibly portray the horror of that scene. I was sick for the entire day afterwards. The world just seemed so wrong. Every aspect of my life was suddenly very trivial and very empty.
All I can say now is God Bless and the sympathies of Canadians everywhere go to not only those directly affected by the tragedy, but all Americans. To say I feel a kinship with the people of the USA would be an understatement. I've spent my entire life watching American t.v., American movies and listening to(mostly) American music. I've even had the privilage of visiting your great nation on more than one occasion and can honestly say, while the USA is different from Canada, I've never felt out of place there. I'm proud to be on the other side of the world's largest un-defended border, and I can only hope to God that it stays that way. During these past days after the attack, I've witnessed Canadians sharing their grief over your loss. Everywhere you look, there are blood drives, memorial services, and signs saying "Our hearts are with you, America.". I hope you all take heart from the patriotism the American people have displayed. Don't let a cowardly act like this keep you down. Bend but do not break. Grieve but do not give in. Weep but do not despair. Show the world what you 're made of.
Once again, I can only say I, and my fellow Canucks, give our condolences in whatever way we can, be they Federal memorial services or sentimental ramblings on message boards. I hope my rant has not come across as cheesy or pedantic, as I'm just trying to say my piece as honestly and tactfully as possible. It is my heartfelt wish that the people of the world can learn from your example and unite against those that seek to foster fear and violence. In my opinion, the greatest tragedy of all would be if a lesson was not learned from this. Our thoughts are with you all.Take Care.
