Kevin,
You are absolutely right. I have always maintained that organized religion was an inherently dangerous concept in regard to human ideology. While most preach peace and virtue, too often are the vague messages let to us by ancient theologists misinterpreted, misconstrued and ultimately used as a basis for justifying intellectual laziness. More people have been killed in the name of God during the whole of human history than for any other reason.
I am a native New Yorker who happens to hang out at the shore and I feel a certain kinship with you and all your movies. Having said that I know you must feel the same way I do with regard to what has happened. Yes, the entire country feels horror, anger and unity, but I believe those of us who grew up looking at the world trade center occupying it's grand place in the majestic New York skyline are affected most of all. Here in New York, everyone knows someone who knows someone who is missing, even if you didn't mercifully have the tragedy directly affect you.
Our generation of slackers and Genx'ers have lived life safe, in peace and in blissful unawareness of the true price of freedom. Yes, we lived through the tail end of the cold war, but that memory becomes ever distant with each passing day. Now we move into a new era. We now know the uncertainty that our grandparents knew during World War two. But like them, we will show the world the power of America. If the United Sates of America has shown anything throughout their short history in human civilization it is this. Freedom works, allowing citizens to express themselves and live life on their own terms makes for resilient, strong willed people. We will show the world again what it is that we are capable of. We will answer the call similar to the way it was answered by our grandparents when fascism threatened to engulf our world.
Having said all that, Jay and Silent Bob ruled dude. I particularly enjoyed seeing My favorite character of the viewaskewniverse, Brodie, in a brief, yet awesome, post Mallrats role. I'm sad to hear that this is to be the final chapter of the Jersey slacker miscapades, but I look forward to seeing your new direction.
Kevin, as I'm sure you're aware, you are a hero to us thirty year olds who still read comics and quote Star Wars and I'm sure you will enjoy watching us ultimately deliver doom onto the evil cowards of the word, Jedi Style ! :o)
Snoogans.
