Well, it's just as much your fault as it is Kevin's, as he has just as much say about it as you do. He doesn't own any of his films, and he has no say in such decisions.
If you'd like an opinion, we didn't get a Special Edition DVD because not enough people went to see it in the cinema. It would be quite expensive to make a Region 2 SE DVD, and if they couldn't guarantee to shift more than a few units of it, then it wouldn't be worth their while. Kevin is still very much a cult director over here.
The SE is encoded because they didn't want to damage what sales of the Region 2 (or wherever) there were going to be. You should of course have a multi-region player that is capable of getting round RCE, and if you don't, I advise you to buy one. The situation is unlikely to change, and you'll miss out son some great SE DVDs, and not just Kevin's.
