Mr. Smith,
As a proffesional firefighter, I was honored by your poem. As an Askew fan I was proud. I cannot imagine what my brothers and sisters in NYC are going through, but we all feel a loss in the fire service family. I thank you from every firefighter I know, your words truly express more than you may think, thank you sir, very much.

"I have no ambition in this world but one,
and that is to be a fireman.
The position may in the eyes of some
appear to be a lowly one;
But to those who know the work
which a fireman has to do
believe his is a noble calling.
Our proudest moment is to save....
lives.
Under the impulse of such thoughts
the nobility of the occupation
thrills us and stimulates us
to deeds of daring
even of supreme sacrifice.
