DV, no question. It's much, much, much better, as long as you can afford it. And for editing, use Final Cut Pro if you can, but it's only for Mac. If you're really serious about doing editing, for more than one project, then get a Mac. It'll save you a lot of headaches. As far as cameras go, I got a Canon GL1 for 1500 bucks off ebay... it's a phenomenal camera if you can swing the cost. Looks just like what you see on the news. Hope that helped!

I'm looking at both formats and I'd like to know the groups feelings ( pro or con ) on each one.I plan on shooting documentaries, shorts and eventually feature length stuff. I know film is KING, but it is not an option right now. I can worry aboot transfers later. Now to the part about keeping it on topic.
