Exactly. Which is reare enough thing with "real" movies, let alone comic book films...and I was really happy with the ending, because it's incredibly faithful to the book in it's own weird little way (Outside of Depp, obviously, though that twist oddly worked, despite being historically wrong, same with the opium...and the visions...), and I think it shows that the Hughes, or at least the writers were big fans of the book and wanted to keep in as much as possible while doing exactly what you said: making a film that would make money. And I loved the look of the film, it really felt dirty and dark and dank, very effective...and the little MTV touches weren't as ugly as I thought they would be, and the effects lent themselves nicely to the visions and the murders. The sound was great, too...loved the way those carriage steps would just crack down onto the screen, made me jump each time! Also, I like the way the Mary Kelly murder was done, giving time to have Gull have a little introspection/freak out like he does in the book...basically, a lot of the best parts of the book came across in the film, and I honeslty think Alan Moore might want to take back all the distancing he did from the film, because, IMHO, he didn't get as dicked over as I'm sure he thought he would...
