It looks like the January date has worked wonders for our hotel rates...

See, October is still wedding and event season, but January is the dead of winter, plus the Thon is on the first weekend after New Year's, so the hotels are empty. Our rates LAST year were around $99 a night, but this year we're looking at around $59 a night. There's two hotels that can handle our crowd:

Holiday Inn - This was the spot for V2K last year. They have Rumor's, the cool bar and restaurant with plenty of room to hang out, but every night when 2:30 came, they threw us out cause they couldn't sell booze anymore. Not a big deal, since we just moved the party to some of the bigger rooms upstairs. The problem with the Holiday is that they don't have a pool, and right now they're quoting me a slightly higher rate than the Marriott.

Courtyard Marriott - This is NOT the Marriott that we used previously. That one is older and smaller than this, but it's laid out almost identical to the one we used for the Stash Bash. They have the indoor pool and the big hot tub, but their common area is alot smaller, and they're concerned about the size of our crowd. The bar they have is also tiny compared to the one at Rumors.

Right now I'm working with the Holiday Inn folks to get them to lower their rate, and with the Marriott folks to get them to let us use the conference/party room for free so we have more space. Let's see what they come up with over the next week, and we'll take it from there.

It doesn't seem like we need The Red Roof Inn since these rates are so cheap, so I'm probably not gonna call them unless you guys want me to.

What do you guys think? How important is the bigger bar or the pool? Which hotel did you like better last time?
