Kevin:
Thank you SO MUCH for coming to KSU last night. You probably won't remember me. I was the bearded guy who asked the third question of the night (right behind OU1313), which was about movies you are working on or ideas you have.
Also, and I must apologize, I was one of the first guys to storm the stage to shake your hand at the end. You looked like a deer caught in the headlights. All night you behaved like such a gentleman, and with such good humor, and I feel like I wronged you because security had to extract you from that big crowd. Although I was the second guy up there, perhaps I contributed to the mob atmosphere. Does that happen everywhere?
I would rather share a few words with you, than just shake your hand for two seconds, although that was cool. :)
The question I should have asked was this: "Why do (most) movies suck so hard these days?" I mean, even in the '80s there were mainstream movies worth watching. Now - it's practically all shit. And how can we make it better?
Last night (out of turn) I also recommended that you put new episodes of the "Clerks" cartoon on the internet. By no means do I recommend this as the only medium - but, it has the advantage that you don't have to bend over for any TV station to get your cartoons published. You mentioned that you don't like Internet animation. But these days, any sort of video can be made digital - full motion picture, cartoon, what have you. The image quality can be as good as you like. 'Course, these days you have to balance quality with file size. But in the coming years, if civilization doesn't collapse, mark my words, there will no longer be a dilemma between bandwidth/file size and quality of picture. The Internet will become TV, especially for the little guy, because let's face it, corporate TV sucks!
Also, the funniest moment of last night had to be when one of the guys who danced on stage grabbed a girl from the front row (are you on this message board?) and tried to get her to dance with him, when the dancing was basically all over! She said something like, "Who is this guy?"
That, and the "film critic" who wouldn't shut up about himself when asking you a "question" about New Jersey (which mall you hung out in?). Believe me, that guy is a notorious bore and general ass around here.
Incidentally, you wouldn't know this, but some of the message board people might remember - I was one of the guys who handed out flyers for "Live Nude Girls Unite!" and "Women in the Dunes" to the whole big line of people waiting for the show! An excellent advertising opportunity (my campus international film group is showing these movies next week). Have you seen either of these movies?
Later. And thanks again for a great night.
PS: It occurred to me that the depravity of geekish fandom increases directly with the degree of living out in the sticks, like say Kent, Ohio. Any thoughts?
