Courtyard by Marriott (next door to the Holiday Inn) will also accept guests over 18 or people under 18 with an adult 18 or older. The only requirement given by the front desk is that the reservation be made during the day, and a manager is consulted on it. Call directly 732-389-2100. Rooms are a bit more expensive here, $59/weekend night and $139/weekday nights (on the upside, corner suites aren't much more at $105/weekend night and $149/weekday night.)

: I talked with the sales manager at the Holiday Inn today, and she wanted me to remind you guys that they can only rent rooms to someone 21 OR OLDER, so make sure you're prepared for that. The only rule is this: You can HAVE under-21 folks in your party, but someone 21 OR OLDER has to sign up for the room.

: I know this REALLY SUCKS, and I feel a TWINGE of guilt for asking instead of having us try to fly in under the radar, but in the end it's better for us to confront this now and work out some solutions than to have you guys get out there and be stuck.

: I lived by myself when I was 16, so I dealt with this shit all the time and I know what it's like, but there's reasons for it, albeit unfair ones. It's all about liability and insurance, and unfortunately, the Inn's insurance company looks at anyone who's under 21 and not WITH someone over 21 and considers them 'unescorted minors'. If the insurance company won't cover a room rented by what they consider to be a minor, then Inn (more specifically the parent company Meristar) won't allow them to rent a room, and the staff would be putting their jobs on the line by 'squeaking them by'.

: Since I have a good relationship going with the Sales Manager (Miss Shari), she's gonna try to help us navigate this obstacle course and get us in, but we HAVE to get the Fab Four from overseas taken care of FIRST. Anyone else who's stateside has an easier chance of scrounging up someone over 21 to go with them or getting a fellow thon-goer to step up and sign for them, so they have less of a priority. These guys are coming from halfway around the world, so it's only fair.

: Now there's a broad solution in the works as well: Jen (Illusion6) brought up a cool idea where we would put together a 'business deal', and pool together the reservations and money from all the under 21 folks, and have the 'business' rent the rooms. That way it'll look like a 'company' is paying for the rooms directly, and this may get us past the rule. Problem is, we'll need 'business' to step up and do the paperwork in their name. We can ask View Askew to do it, but I highly doubt they'll accept.
: It's gonna be tricky, but I'll see if this is an option.

: Let's see what happens tomorrow when I hear back from them, but you can't say I didn't fight tooth and nail for you guys...

: -Len
