How I see a movie depends totally on my mood and what part of my brain's got the reigns at the time.
Most of the time, it's like music. You can listen to a song one time and be lost in an amazing bassline and the next time you hear it be blown away by the drums to the point that you aren't nearly as consicous of the bass. Sometimes you're singing along and sometimes you're listening to the meaning.
Same thing with visual art. Sometimes you look at the image, sometimes you're nose to canvas looking at the textures of two brush strokes overlapping.
So, which is the most important? The one you experience in the moment. The focus of your experience. And if that's just one thing, you're missing a lot or the music.
