The problem is that if you go really deep into the timeline, its full of continuity errors that can't be explained away. Unless you think of the comics as their own separate elements. I think there actually is some kind of timeline somewhere online (and there's a brief one in the Chasing Amy booklet), but I have no idea where the online one is- or if its even right.
Just try not to think of the continuity too much, and everything will be okay.
