Gotta say I don't like the no sidekicks rule. In no particular order:
Spider-Man (has never been Spiderman, never will be... the HYPHEN is IMPORTANT! *said in a light tone*)

Green Lantern (Kyle)
Wolverine (to complete the big three everybody and their dog will choose)
Flash (Wally)
Phoenix (there's something about sexily-drawn demigod-cosmic-powered heroines that snap and kill billions...)
Iron Man
The Tick
Freakazoid
Nightwing (just to get around the "can't choose Robin" thing)
Monkey Man (hey, he's got those BUTTONS, he counts)
Cannonball (did you see the fight he had with Gladiator?)
The Hornet (remember Slingers?)
Samaritan
The Confessor
Jack-In-The-Box
Raphael (that's right, the Turtle... my cousin Steve did the lettering for the Mirage Studios books, so I'm cool with naming a Turtle)
Shadowcat (maybe it's cause she was introduced when I first started reading)
