: demux? and what would you reccomend to convert with? i think that line in is looking better and better.....

when you author a DVD all the elements (video tracks, audio tracks, menus, subtitles) are multiplexed (encoded into one file... like zipping without the compression). whatever program you use to "rip" the dvd should have some kind of option to de-mux... which splits all the elements back into individual files. so you'd have an AC3 audio file that can be done whatever with... I'm on a Macintosh and i use A.Pack to do my AC3 stuff. the utility i use if i need to rip data from a DVD was written by a friend of mine and it doesn't really exist.

just check google.com for "rip dvd" or "extract audio from dvd" and you should find a BILLION options... especially if yr on a pc rather than a mac.
