Speaking for myself, I would never try to turn a lesbian straight. I would feel closer to a lesbian seeing that they have the same sexual interests as I do. It might be hard on me though since, if she's attractive, I might develop feelings for her.
Chasing Amy is my favorite film by Kevin. Not because of the lesbian angle (but it's nice to see...sorry, my perverted male-side poking through). I've seen other lesbian-themed movies before and don't like them nearly as much. The ones I don't like are either too "message-y," boring, weird, etc. Chasing Amy was good because it was deep and the lesbianism didn't matter and took a backseat to the story.
About a lesbian falling in love with someone no matter what the sex is, I'm not sure. I think with Chasing Amy, Alyssa has been with guys before and is sexually adventurous, so maybe she wasn't completely gay as she thought. But that's just my 2 cents...
