Probably because he's one of those guys who's actually really quite funny if both (a) you understand the backstory to some of his gags and (b) are into his style of humour.
Personally, I think he's funny as hell simply because he likes playing around with levels of understanding, levels of false reality... and has an appreciation for how precious the truly obnoxiously bad can be.
