In StarWars, Han was having a standoff with an alien name of Greedo... and shot him while he was off-guard, sort of sneaky-like, so as to save his own life.
In the re-edit years later, Lucas stuck in Greedo shooting first... making Han's shot self-defense, pussifying Han into a mealymouth hero-type from the start instead of allowing him 'tweener rouge mystery in his character arc.
It was the craptacular-reediting equivilent of having Citizen Kane's last word be "schwing"...
And it was hated across the board.
As for the rest of it, you DID explain your point..
