: I have noticed in some articles that I've read, that Kevin constantly bashes Mallrats. I loved the movie and although it wasn't as deep and thought provoking as Chasing Amy or Dogma, it was still good for a laugh. Just recently on the Roadside Atractions, Kevin bashed Mallrats again, saying that his Darth Vader impression sucked, but then again so did Mallrats. Why? What was wrong with Mallrats?
MALLRATS was a great movie because everyone can relate to being one at some point in their high school life. Some of the characters might have been a little over the top, but the sanctity of the story itself was always that a shopping mall for teenagers was a haven of protection from the real world.
It's a view of life that you can never go back to, but are thankful you experienced. None of his other movies had as its premise an experience that such a broad spectrum of people could identify with in their own life.
So Kevin Smith is wrong once again.
