Hello, all. I wanted to gather some opinions on something. I'm currently working on a screenplay for a movie set in an office. However, prior to that I had been working on another idea that I shelved because I was having trouble envisioning it scene-by-scene. not to mention, I wasn't sure the story was plausible.
I was about a guy who opens up a satanic church right out in the open in the downtown arean of some city or other. It would be about the size of your average church, but black and with satanic imagry. Please also be aware that this church would be quite separate and different from the Church of Satan as founded by the late Anton LeVey. Rather than revering the devil as merely a symbol of hedonism, these people would believe in a literal devil who is a heroic rebel fighting the good fight against a tyranical God (their beliefs, not mine. no offense meant to anyone.)
The premise was to involve a cop who was assigned to the church during it's opening and first few gatherings to make sure everything going on was legal, as obviously where devil worship is concerned there would be worries about sacrifice and violence to consider. This would really be more of a drama than a horror movie, by the way. It turns out that, while bizarre in its nature, this church conducts itself to the letter of the law. The part I'm having trouble with is this. Obviously, there would be vehement protests from christians about the building and operation of such a church. But, would there also be protesters agnostic on the subject who believe that, as long as they obey the law, these people should be left alone to practice what they please? Also, from a legal standpoint, could you imagine such a place being built?
Your input would be greatly appreciated.
