as a proof point I submit that not even Star Wars can top Star Wars. Remember how everyone bitched about Ep. I; and the bitching going on about Ep. II now. Those first three movies were special in so many ways that nothing will ever compare. Other scifi movies will be great, but Star Wars broke new ground, which, by definition, can never be done again.
: everything is the next StarWars. They said the the 5th element was 'the next Star Wars', Then 'Dune', now Lord of the Rings. THERE will never be another Star Wars. There will never be a next Star Wars. I'm not saying that SW is the be all end all Jesus Christ of cinema. The special effects revolution that was brought on by the original three movies is over. everything is digital now, so unless we get a holographic movie no other film or set of films will be able to achieve what SW did.
: Just let Lord of the Rings be Lord of the Rings.
