...always makes me sad. The term "newbie" is the viginal geek equivalent to the same sub-literate, barbarian impulse amongst gangstas for "respect." This whole notion of "respect" is the lowest common denominator of alpha-male simian interaction. I am reminded of the episode of THE SOPRANOS where Tony could not, under "gang law" get mad at Joey Pants for killing a young girl, but he COULD chew him out for "disrespecting the Bing."

It is just sad to see people react on such a base level of tribal territorial chest puffing.

Why does ANYONE who has been here for a long time deserve "props" (derived from "Propers" meaning, "proper respects"), by dint of "time served?"

If you have been here since the board pushed its first packet of data through a CGI script, and are an asshole, are you somehow any LESS of an asshole because of your tenacity to stay around?

What "initiation" must a "newbie" pass before he could "come here" and "tell everyone what to do?"

A gauntlet of geeks, beating him up down a line until he comes out the other side, as "one of us?"

I want to know, so I can, y'know, "keep it real," and "kick it straight up gangsta."
