If you feel like it, this is the way I have it. Its a little different, but like
70% the same. See if I should just run with it or just try again.
19 Int. Chris’ house, his room.
Chris is on his bed laying down, Jack is on his couch.
Jack:(angry) What? What’s with you? You haven’t said anything for
like 20 minutes. What the hell is your problem?
Chris: This life.
Jack: This life?
Chris: Why do I have this life?
Jack: Have some chips; you’ll feel better.
Chris: I’m stuck in this pit, dealing with ever backward fuck in
Chelmsford, and my girlfriend is catatonic after drinking 10
margaritas in less than an hour.
Jack: 12
Chris: My life is in the shitter right now, so if you don’t mind, I’d like to
stew a bit.
Jack: That’s all bull shit, man. You know what your real problem here
is?
Chris: I was born?
Jack: You should shit or get off the pot.
Chris: I should shit or get off the pot.
Jack: Yeah, you should shit or get off the pot.
Chris: What are you talking about?
Jack: I’m talking about this thing you have...this inability to improve
your station in life.
Chris: Fuck you.
Jack: It’s true. You’ll sit there and blame life for dealing you a cruddy
hand, never once accepting the responsibility for the way your
situation is.
Chris: What responsibility?
Jack: If you hate your job, and the people at school. Then quit.
Chris: As if it’s that easy.
Jack: It is. You just up and quit. There are things you can do other
than school. More educational things, like prostitution.
Chris: Leave me alone.
Jack: Oh, you’re comfortable. This is a life of convenience for you, and
any attempt to change it would shatter the pathetic microcosm you’ve
fashioned for yourself.
Chris: Oh, like your life is any better.
Jack: I’m satisfied with my station for now. You don’t hear me
bitching. You on the other hand, have been bitching all day.
Chris: Thank you. Why don’t you go home?
Jack: Man, if you weren’t such a fucking coward...
Chris: If I wasn’t such a fucking coward.(Chuckles) It must be great to
simplify things the way you do.
Jack: Am I right or what?
Chris: You’re wrong. Things happened today. Things that probably
ruined my chances with Sarah.
Jack: What? The margaritas? She’ll get over that.
Chris: Sarah and I can’t be together. It’s impossible.
Jack: Melodrama coming from your mouth seems as natural as an
oral bowel movement.
Chris: What do you want me to say? Yes, I suppose some of the
things you’re saying are true. But that’s the way things are;it’s not
going to change.
Jack: Make them change.
Chris: I can’t! Jesus, would you leave me alone? I can’t make
changes in my life like that.If I could, I would-but I don’t have the ability
to risk comfortable situations on the big money and the fabulous
prizes.
Jack: Who are you kidding? You can so.
Chris: Jesus H. Christ! I can’t!
Jack: So you’ll continue being miserable all the time, just because
you don’t have the guts to face change?
Chris: (Sadly) My mother told me once that when I was three, my potty
lid was closed, and instead of lifting it, I chose to shit my pants.
Jack: Lovely story.
Chris: Point is-I’m not the kind of person that disrupts thing just so I
can shit comfortably.
