If you go the film school route...give up any dreams of Ucla or NYU for grad school/film school...it is super competative...

If you move to La, i would suggest the following..

UCLA extension has a lot of film classes, located in Studio City, they are reasonable in price and you can make a lot of contacts that way, or at least folks in your same shoes..I took 35mm film editing there(the old fashioned way) and it was a good course....

If you want a school and not just a certificate or classes, I would recommend Cal State Northridge, it is less competative and less expensive, however since the quake they have invested money in new film equipment, and I have heard good things, plus because they are driving distance to the studios, they have a lot of internships and programs available to give you experience.

Though I am not doing anything with film...I lived in Studio City and everyone I met was working in the industry, I recommend it highly...also a lot of people in North Hollywood, which is a bit cheaper but more slummy..
